Huentala Wines: Crafting Exceptional Wines with a Sense of Place

Julio Camsen, a seasoned hotelier with a rich background in showcasing Mendoza's finest food and wines, always envisioned creating his own wines. Stemming from a winemaking family, Camsen’s dream came to fruition in 2002 when he acquired 230 hectares of premium vineyards in Gualtallary, Uco Valley. Thus, Huentala Wines was born.

Establishing La Isabel Estate

Julio Camsen's passion for winemaking saw him planting his first vineyard in 2010, an 85-hectare site named La Isabel Estate in honor of his mother. Today, this estate stands as the purveyor of the highly-acclaimed single-vineyard Malbec that truly embodies the unique Gualtallary terroir.

Wines with a Sense of Place

Situated at an elevation of 1,400 meters, La Isabel Estate boasts a remarkably diverse range of soils, including calcareous sand and abundant rocky material. This geological diversity, according to winemaker José Morales, allows Huentala Wines to craft bottles with a distinct sense of place. The meticulous exploration and understanding of these soils are pivotal in defining the unique character of Huentala Wines’ collections, such as Zonos, La Isabel Estate, Huentala Blocks Edition, and Calizo Carmín & Albar lines.

Experience Huentala Wines in Gualtallary

Beyond its exceptional wines, Huentala Wines offers visitors an immersive experience set against the breathtaking Andes Mountains. The vineyard grounds feature a curated sculpture collection and a restaurant, Rastro by Huentala, where guests can savor traditional local cuisine. This blend of art, food, and wine creates a memorable visit, spotlighting the cultural richness of Mendoza.

Spotlight on La Isabel Estate Malbec 2021

One of Huentala Wines' most celebrated creations, the La Isabel Estate Malbec 2021, was awarded 95 points and a Gold medal at Decanter’s 2024 Premium Argentinian Malbec panel tasting. Lauded by the judges as "outstanding," this wine encapsulates the nuanced expressions of Gualtallary. Winemaker Morales notes that grapes from different areas of the estate are fermented in micro-batches, ensuring that only the finest wines are selected for the final blend. Judges praised the wine for its energy, bright silkiness, and vibrant violet perfume, along with notes of ripe forest fruits, dark chocolate, and dried herbs.

La Isabel Estate Malbec 2021 exemplifies Huentala Wines' dedication to capturing the essence of their unique terroir and stands as a testament to their refined winemaking process.
